In conversation with one of the co-founders of Refillable, Lokesh Sambhwani, we bring you their vision of a plastic-free India.

For a Better, Greener & Plastic-free India

Purav Desai, Rahul Batra, Nishith Jardosh, Anupriya Nayyar and Lokesh Sambhwani started The Refillable Store in Mumbai. It’s a portable convenience store at your doorstep, providing you with the entire range of homecare products in the most eco-friendly & sustainable way possible. 

“It is like the milkman delivery but for soap, dishwashing liquid, detergents.”

You only fill in what you need. Come with your container and they top it up. Obviously, you only pay for what you need.

The Idea behind Refillable

The pandemic influenced plastic consumption in obvious ways. The use of sanitizers in the pandemic naturally increased and almost all are packed in plastic bottles.
“Along with sanitizers, hand wash, dishwash, floor cleaners, etc are also the reasons for plastic waste.”   Well, this could lead to an even deadlier pandemic. 

The Refillable team decided that their dream of a plastic-free tomorrow won’t suffer a setback and will find new solutions to these problems. And they did!   
The vision had always been to eliminate single-use plastic packaging and helping people go zero-waste.

Wondering How it Works? 

To combat the problem of plastic waste, the team started Refillable.

“A refill service truck which delivers everything from cleaning agents to sanitizers at your doorstep in your own containers.”   (no packaging = no plastic waste) 

Lokesh shared with us the procedure of ‘how to refill’-

• First, you avail their product/service online.
• On the scheduled day of the refill, BYOC (bring your own container) or purchase one at their mobile refill station. These containers are made up of aluminum, thereby negating the risk of pollution caused by plastic.
• Their Refill Agent will disinfect your packaging and refill as per your order.  

It's that simple, you save a plastic bottle from entering the landfill and make a home for zillions of years to come. You save pollution. You save nature. You save the future!

What we do today can improve our tomorrow. Refillable believes in that. Their mission is fueled by this vision. ‍

“Within a year, we have ceased up to 500kg of plastic and almost 10,000 plastic bottles from ending up in our mother nature. This number will only keep increasing with time and our tomorrow will keep becoming greener, hopefully!”

We asked Lokesh about their idea for a greater good, to which he replied-

“While there are plenty of ideas all around in the sea, we believe in the power of makeshift.  Execute - Fail - Get Feedback - Upgrade  and keep doing it over the course of time.”

Lokesh also added, “Refillable shows how people do not need to go out of the way to do their bit for the environment. We can become a niche player in the market, but that alone won't be enough to defeat the monster that plastic is.” 

They need us. They need us to be aware of our actions and the consequences. They need us to be considerate and compassionate towards nature. They need us to stop the use of plastic whenever and wherever possible. 

They have extended their arms and they need us to extend ours. This partnership will help us turn the dream of a green world into reality.
